On the 9th and 10th of October 2023, an English-language event took place at the Film Academy Baden-Württemberg, centered around the overarching theme of "Impulses, Exchange, Story Market". The discussion on "Media Art and AI: The creative revolution?" on late Monday evening was led, among others, by Dr. Erwin Feyersinger from the University of Tübingen. Other participants included Dave McKean, Boris Eldagsen, and Jochen Laube. The host was Professor Thomas Schadt, and the event was moderated by Dr. Jan Pinkava.
The focus of the conversation revolved around the challenges and emerging questions concerning AI as a creative tool for producing art. For instance, the result of an AI-assisted creative process can significantly differ from the original idea an artist initially intended to convey. Interacting with this new category of tools and processes sparked discussions about the definition of creativity. Furthermore, ethical considerations played a role in the discourse regarding the role of AI in the world of media: how can modern technology be integrated into the realm of art?
Ultimately, the conversation shed light on how media and AI can complement each other and mutually influence one another. We are delighted to have been a part of it!
