AI for Good: Global Responsible Innovation and Business Transformation

Dr. Anne Burkhardt will rep­res­ent the RHET AI Cen­ter from 24–27 Septem­ber, 2026 at the Brazili­an-Ger­man Fron­ti­ers of Sci­ence and Tech­no­logy (BRAGFOST) Sym­posi­um in Goi­ania, Brazil, where she will present her research from the past four years at the RHET AI Cen­ter on the top­ic of "AI & Glob­al (In)Justice" in a talk and with a poster.

In par­tic­u­lar, she will high­light her three pro­jects:

• Epi­stem­ic Injustice: Explor­ing South­ern Epistemologies
• Infra­struc­tur­al Injustice: Explor­ing the Mater­i­al Dimen­sions of AI
• Nar­rat­ive Injustice: Explor­ing South­ern AI Narratives

The sym­posi­um is part of an inter­dis­cip­lin­ary, bin­a­tion­al series organ­ized by the Brazili­an Fed­er­al Agency for Sup­port and Eval­u­ation of Gradu­ate Edu­ca­tion (CAPES), the Alex­an­der von Hum­boldt Found­a­tion, and the BMFTR, bring­ing togeth­er 60 young research­ers from vari­ous fields of nat­ur­al sci­ences, human­it­ies, and engin­eer­ing from Brazil and Ger­many. In addi­tion, the sub­sequent fol­low-up pro­gram (CONNECT Pro­gram) enables the research­ers to under­take fur­ther stays in Ger­many and Brazil.

This year's sym­posi­um is held under the over­arch­ing theme:
"AI for Good: Glob­al Respons­ible Innov­a­tion and Busi­ness Trans­form­a­tion" and focuses in par­tic­u­lar on the fol­low­ing aspects:

• Empower­ing SMEs with AI: Bridging the Innov­a­tion Gap
• Gen­er­at­ive AI for Next-Gen­er­a­tion Edu­ca­tion, Research, and Know­ledge Transfer
• Trust­worthy AI in the Era of Large Lan­guage Models
• Syn­thet­ic Data for Trust­worthy AI: Found­a­tions, Mod­al­it­ies, and Respons­ible Development

Along­side net­work­ing and aca­dem­ic exchange, our par­tic­u­lar focus is on fur­ther expand­ing our own research col­lab­or­a­tions in the AI con­text and integ­rat­ing poten­tial insti­tu­tion­al part­ners from the Glob­al South into the work of the RHET AI Coali­tion in the next fund­ing phase.
