JIR Closing Ceremony with journalist Bettina Friedrich

March 15th, 2023 at 11:45, online

How can machine learning, computer vision and other applications of artificial intelligence (AI) be used for journalism? At the end of her stay as Journalist-in-Residence, MDR journalist Bettina Friedrich will share her insights from discussions with AI researchers.

During her stay as Cyber Valley Journalist-in-Residence, Bettina Friedrich from the Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR) focused on the use of various AI tools for journalistic work. She was particularly interested in how audiovisual archives can be researched and properly prepared for investigation.

Spoiler: A lot is possible now! She discussed her findings with Patrick Klügel of the RHET AI Center in an online meeting via Zoom. At the same time, interested journalists can learn about the program's new call for applications and ask questions about the application process.

The event is aimed at journalists and is open to all interested parties. No prior knowledge of AI is required.

You can register for the event here.

The JIR-Program

In order to give interested journalists the freedom to conduct their own research and develop their own projects, RHET AI offers a Journalist-in-Residence program with the support of Cyber Valley. The program is funded by the Volkswagen Foundation at the Center for Rhetorical Science Communication Research on Artificial Intelligence (RHET AI) in Tübingen.

More information about the JIR program can be found here.
