Monika Hanauska and Patrizia Attar at the GAL Annual Conference 2024

The annual conference of the GAL (Gesellschaft für Angewandte Linguistik) will take place at TU Dresden from September 11–13. The 15 sections of the GAL will each discuss and continue their topics and current issues together and give linguists an insight into their research. Thus, within the large annual conference, 15 individual section meetings will take place, between which participants can easily switch thanks to a well thought-out conference program.

We at the RHET AI Center are delighted to be represented at the conference several times. On September 12, Patrizia Attar will give a presentation within the section Intercultural Communication and Multilingual Discourses (Room ABS/0214, 4–5:30 pm). "Wissen über KI, Wissen über AI in der Wikipedia – eine kulturlinguistische Analyse" is the title. Within the lecture, Patrizia Attar will examine the German and English discussion of artificial intelligence in Wikipedia articles and would like to work out the linguistic means by which knowledge about AI is linguistically produced in culturally specific contexts.

In addition, the new research focus "Artificial Intelligence" of the GAL — co-founded by us and in particular Nina Kalwa from Unit 1 — will be presented. In a poster presentation, Monika Hanauska and Patrizia Attar explain the content and goals of the research focus, which is dedicated to the influence of AI processes on language and the influence of language on AI processes and will work with a wide variety of linguistic sub-disciplines. We are excited about the work and insights that will emerge from the research focus. The poster presentations will take place on Thursday, September 12th from 10:15 to 11 am and again from 3:15 to 4 pm. You can find more information on the GAL research focus "Artificial Intelligence" in our article on the presentation of the research focus.
